About this book
On the planet Borthan, the Covenant forbids selfhood: people are taught to be modest and to say "I" is obscene. Kinnall Darival, a prince who fled his family after a conflict with his brother, has been brought up to believe it.
When an Earthman introduces him to a drug that allows two people to share their minds completely, Kinnall begins to teach it to others. It becomes a revolution, and it ends in tragedy. Told in the first person, in violation of the rules, and a winner of the Nebula Award.
