About this book
William Mandella is a physics student drafted into an elite force to fight an alien enemy on the far side of the galaxy. Travel between the front lines takes a few subjective months, but years pass at home, and each time the soldiers return, Earth has changed beyond recognition and the war has become harder to explain.
As the centuries turn over, Mandella rises from raw recruit to commander, and the only things he has to hold on to are the soldier he loves and the sense that the war may no longer make any sense.
A Hugo and Nebula Award-winning military science fiction classic.
